At IMPACT, we believe that mission is a core part of our faith. We also believe that Young Adults grow in their faith when they can discover more about the world around them and learn from other cultures.
That’s why we’ve partnered with mission experts, Baptist Mission Australia, to create an incredible mission exposure trip just for Young Adults.
Our goal is give you an incredible, eye-opening global exposure experience, gain insight into intercultural mission work, and witness firsthand the impact that intentional mission can have on a community. Whether you are a seasoned traveller, or have never left Australia this trip will be a life-changing faith growing adventure!
Over two weeks in the June-July break, you’ll travel with your cohort and program staff to Cambodia. On your adventure you’ll learn some of the local language, enjoy delicious local food, and visit significant cultural landmarks.
However, the true highlight is spending time with local intercultural workers, hearing their stories, and observing their work. Many of these workers have served long-term and share valuable insights about spreading the good news of Jesus to those who may be hearing it for the first time.
2026 Key Dates
Apply by: 10 April
Travel Dates: travel in 2026 will take place within the blackout period of 28 June – 18 July
Preparation
A trip like this can feel intimidating, so we ensure you go into it confident and prepared. Before the trip, we dedicate significant time to preparing ourselves as a team and as individuals.
This includes talks from Baptist Mission Australia staff, along with activities to familiarise you with the culture, food, and language you’ll experience. We also focus on emotional preparation and self-care to help you stay resilient throughout the journey.
We’ll take care of visas and travel arrangements, but you’ll need a passport with at least six months of validity.
Debrief
Debriefing is a key component of all experiences at IMPACT, and the mission exposure trip is no exception. We provide debrief sessions both in Cambodia and upon returning to Australia. This helps solidify the lessons you’ve learned and provides an opportunity to listen for what God might be saying to you personally through these experiences.
For Parents and Supporters
We provide regular updates for those back home during the trip so that you can be praying for the group. While we’re gone, students will have regular access to WiFi at our accommodation and are encouraged to keep in touch with their families and friends at home.
This includes flights, transportation, accommodation, all meals, programmed activities and entry fees.
You will need to bring your own spending money for snacks, souvenirs, and any activities you choose to do during free time.
You will also need to cover the cost of your passport (if you don’t already have one) and any vaccinations or medical appointments relating to the trip.
Don’t worry, there are scholarships and discounts available. Check out our COSTS page for more info.
Travel always involves a level of risk, but your safety and security is our priority. We keep a close eye on what’s happening in Cambodia to determine whether it’s safe to go. In the event of any issues, we discuss things with the local Baptist Mission Australia team, and the team on the ground in Cambodia, as well as our insurance providers and government services like Smart Traveller to determine whether it is safe to travel. If we ever decide it’s not safe to go to Cambodia, we’ll do our best to ensure a suitable alternative is provided.
Before we travel, we communicate with participants about ways to keep themselves and their belongings safe, and how to look out for each other.
If, by “typical” you mean going to another country to complete a project or run a program, then no. To quote Baptist Mission Australia, this trip is not so much about ‘doing’, as it is about ‘observing’ and ‘experiencing’.
Our goal is to introduce you to the idea of cross-cultural mission, allow you to observe what it’s like to share your faith cross-culturally, and to experience a small taste of life in another culture. Much of what we do on this trip will be listening, learning and observing, although there will be some occasions where we participate in the work in some way. For example, sometimes we are asked to share a song or story at a kids club or in a church service.
We’ve found participants get a lot out of these trips! The experience of connecting with people from another culture, and of learning about a country’s culture and history helps to increase your Cultural Intelligence (CQ), and our discussions and debriefing sessions help you to figure out what you’re learning and how you might apply it in your own home context.
Even just the simple fact of being away from home, family, friends and distractions for a couple of weeks can help you to hear Gods voice more clearly, to rely on Him more, and to grow in new and surprising ways. You might find yourself hearing from the Lord about all kinds of things and finding clarity for your next steps.
